The brave men and women of the United States military leave their homes, say goodbye to loved ones, and put their lives at risk to ensure our freedoms. While they go into battle with the latest technology and training, their greatest asset is the one American Bible Society provides — God’s Word.

Scriptures offer peace and eternal hope in the midst of danger. One Army chaplain says that after receiving and distributing one shipment of Bibles, provided by the Bible Society, 44 Troop Members accepted Jesus Christ! “The Bible can offer Troops hope during times of peril and the peace of God when they are surrounded with chaos,” says the chaplain.

Another chaplain for the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Battalion agrees. “My soldiers have a very high stress mission being the ‘Bomb Squad’ of the Army. One wrong move can end their lives. Resources that answer questions of mortality are vital.”

Then there is the stress that our Veterans face after returning home. Physically and emotionally wounded, God’s Word helps these brave but battered Veterans rebuild their lives. One Veteran who struggled with despair says the Bible turned his life around. “My attitude about life in general has improved. I’m reading the Bible almost daily now. I feel more alive!”

Another Veteran says: “I’ve been suffering for over 45 years. Finally, God’s Word has opened my eyes to a new life!”

The Bible Society also connects children and families of our military with the hope and comfort of God’s Word. But with more than 1.3 million active duty Troop Members and some 23 million U.S. Veterans across America, plus their families, the need is vast.
