Changing Lives in Midtown Manhattan

Anthony Kravit shares how the Bible is showing him the love of Jesus. Video still by Eliu Cornielle

In mid-January, hundreds of volunteers gathered at Calvary Baptist Church in New York City, preparing for a citywide homeless outreach event called “Don't Walk By.” The American Bible Society and The Bowery Mission, New York City's largest spiritually based homeless outreach program, provided Bibles and Scripture Portions for volunteers to hand out while traversing the streets of Midtown Manhattan.

The goal was to reach out to as many homeless people as possible, offering them information about The Bowery Mission and other local homeless ministries and encouragement from God's Word.

Hundreds of homeless men and women received a better understanding of where they could receive food, medical care, spiritual counseling and other services offering opportunities for life change. One beneficiary, Anthony Kravit, said, “The Bible has impacted my life by giving me hope, but most all showing me love . . . the love of Jesus.”

Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.

Help us share God's Word where needed most.
