Scripture Brings Good News to Families in India

“The Bible has transformed me from being a receiver to a giver.”

Rashmi* has lived through her share of difficult times in her remote village. After the sudden loss of her father, the 30-year-old was left to care for her ailing mother. At the same time, her husband lost his job and their daughter began to experience vision loss.

Rashmi felt overwhelmed and helpless. What she needed was the Good News. But like so many in India, she didn’t have access to the Bible in a language she could understand.

Then, one long-awaited day, a Bible Society team visited her village and handed her a Bible in her heart language.

“My eyes popped out and my smile on my face went wider and wider as I read the Bible in my own language for the first time,” says Rashmi. She realized there were so many more like her in need of God’s Word, so Rashmi started going from village to village, sharing the Good News with uneducated women and the elderly.

“My relationship with God is stronger now as I enjoy reading the Word and also sharing with others in the village and neighboring villages,” says Rashmi. “The Bible has transformed me from being a receiver to giver.”

“It certainly has impacted my life,” says Rashmi. “The Word of God brought comfort and also added a new dimension in my life as I went out to teach to others.”

Rashmi is just one example of how the Bible is transforming lives for people in India. Support from American Bible Society’s financial partners gives children and families in India and around the world an open window to God’s love and the promises of his Word.
