Heartbreak often feels more like a journey than a destination. In the wake of loss or separation, we so badly want to pass through our feelings of sorrow. But the process takes time—and sorrow rarely passes as quickly as we wish it did. This journey leaves us feeling anxious. And it leaves us longing for a way to overcome our pain. Have you been here before?

Maybe you lost a loved one, and the grieving process has lingered for longer than you anticipated. Memories of your life together continually flood your mind—and you’re struggling to reminisce instead of mourn. Maybe your daughter stormed out of your home after a recent fight and moved in with a close friend. You haven’t seen her in weeks. And her absence has left you feeling anxious and afraid. Maybe, despite your best intentions, your marriage has slowly fallen apart. You love your spouse. But you lack the intimacy you once shared.

You wonder if your heartbreak will ever pass. And you wonder if life as you once knew it will ever return. I just want to feel whole again, you think to yourself.

In these moments, you can turn to messages of hope and healing found in God’s Word. And you can call out to God for the peace and joy you so desperately crave.

These three prayers will get you started:

  1. Lord, I’m grieving. I long to feel your presence today.
You will show me the path that leads to life; your presence fills me with joy and brings me pleasure forever.– Psalm 16:11 (GNTD)
  2. Lord, I feel hopeless. Fill me with hope today.
May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.– Romans 15:13 (GNTD)
  3. Lord, I feel anxious and afraid. Give me strength and peace.
Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.– John 14:27 (GNTD)
