American Bible Society Brings Viewers Inside THE PASSION Experience

New Technology for a Timeless Story

PHILADELPHIA, March 8, 2016—American Bible Society continues to be on the cutting edge of bringing the message of the Bible to people wherever they are by whatever means available. The organization is partnering with THE PASSION—a musical that will air live on FOX on Palm Sunday, March 20—to enrich the viewers’ experience by creating 360-degree videos and Bible-based character profiles, and providing Scripture-based discussion guides on ThePassion.com.

The 360-degree videos will be produced live during THE PASSION and uploaded to ThePassion.com. For those who desire to fully experience the event on two screens, the web videos will allow viewers to see 360 degrees as they experience various aspects of the show and feel like they are a part of the crowd as they watch THE PASSION on TV.

American Bible Society is also providing a downloadable family discussion guide and a church or small group discussion guide. In addition, the ministry will tackle the tough topics of Jesus’ death and resurrection through a series of blog posts. These resources are intended to help viewers dig deeper into Scripture and the meaning for us today of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. The organization hopes that the main themes of the musical—love, friendship, betrayal and forgiveness—will help people share these messages from the Bible with others.

“The Bible has the power to transform the human heart as people encounter the risen Christ in its pages. At American Bible Society, our ten-year goal is to see 100 million people in the U.S. experiencing that transformation through Bible engagement. Our hope is that this will encourage Christians to start conversations with their friends about Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, and what the story means for their lives so all may learn more about the life-changing messages found in the Bible,” said Andrew Hood, director of communications for American Bible Society.

THE PASSION, which chronicles Jesus’ walk to his death and resurrection, will be set in a modern context and features Tyler Perry, Jencarlos Canela, Trisha Yearwood, Chris Daughtry, Seal and Prince Royce. Michael W. Smith has been cast as one of Jesus’ disciples, and Yolanda Adams will kick off the show with a live performance. THE PASSION is written by Peter Barsocchini with music arranged by Adam Anders.
