A new, interactive Bible app, “Build Your Bible,” empowers youth to expand their Bible knowledge through trivia questions and friendly competition. The app recently launched for Google (Android) and Apple (iOS) devices.

Developed by American Bible Society and Fundación Ramón Pané, an organization that equips Catholic Church leaders for global evangelism, the app motivates youth to engage with God’s Word through a progressive game. As users make their way through the app, offered in either English or Spanish, they have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of Scripture—and experience transformation through God’s Word.

“Today’s young people love to play, and they love to interact,” says Mario J. Paredes, Presidential Liaison to Roman Catholic Ministry at American Bible Society. “If we develop an instrument [for youth] to get to know the Bible, to engage with the Bible and to discover the Word of God…I think that is a great thing to do.”

According to Paredes, social media represents an effective method for reaching today’s youth, many of whom report having no interest in reading the Bible. The Build Your Bible app seeks to excite these users by leveraging social media, enabling youth to “stump” their friends by posting a trivia question to their Facebook wall.

Upon first opening the app, youth encounter an empty library. By answering a series of Bible-based trivia questions, they earn coins to “purchase” each book of the Bible. Users turn to social media when faced with a difficult question; by posting a challenge to a friend’s Facebook page, they have the opportunity to locate a correct answer, interact with friends through social media and acquire new Bible knowledge. Users may also answer the question on their own by following a link to the question’s context in Scripture.

As American Bible Society works to see 100 million people in the U.S. actively engaged with God’s Word, the Build Your Bible app helps the next generation experience the Bible in a fun, modern format.
