Wrap Your Arms Around the Gift of Truth

Celebrate with Simeon and Embrace the Messiah this Christmas

The months leading up to a baby’s birth can feel like an eternity. Preparations are made as anticipation builds until finally, he or she is here. What a joy it is to hold the precious bundle for the first time!

Waiting for Jesus

About 2,000 years ago, a man named Simeon was waiting in anticipation for a very special someone to arrive. He knew that a Savior was on his way, bringing a message of truth that would change the world for all time.

“Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required…”

Luke 2:25-27

Embracing Jesus

What went through Simeon’s mind as this long-awaited day unfolded? Was his heart pounding as he recognized God’s promises were being fulfilled in that very moment? Were his fingers trembling as he reached out to embrace the swaddled Messiah?

“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

Luke 2:28-32

As Simeon looked into the face of Jesus, he knew in his heart that the wait was over. Jesus, God’s gift of love, had arrived. He was here to bring salvation. The Light of the World, who rested in his arms, would reveal the love of God to mankind and change the world forever.

In response to this transformational truth, Simeon’s heart was full, his posture one of praise.
