In the Shadow of War, Ukrainians Find Peace

Jesus draws near to those suffering with grief in Ukraine

Since 2014, a war between the Ukrainian government and local insurgents has left many Ukrainians traumatized.

Caught in the crosshairs of violence and conflict, the people of this nation are suffering. Bombings, attacks, brutal force, and loss of life are causing mass devastation. A staggering 1.4 million people in Ukraine have been internally displaced. Even among the military, the rates of suicide and post-traumatic stress disorder have skyrocketed.

But God has not forgotten the people of this nation. He has the power to turn sorrow into joy. He longs to restore hope when hope seems lost.

Healing the Broken-Hearted through God’s Word

God is healing hearts in Ukraine through Bible-based trauma healing. This Scripture-based ministry uses the power of God’s Word to help people heal from suffering they’ve endured. In small groups, participants read and listen to stories of pain. Then, a trained facilitator walks them through Scripture, giving them an opportunity to bring their deepest wounds to the one who can heal: Jesus.

Since 2016, Ukrainian Bible Society has organized 93 healing groups for 1,060 people. It has also piloted a trauma healing group for military personnel. And God is touching lives and bringing hope! Your prayers are needed to begin trauma healing groups for children in 2020.

Pray for Ukraine

Will you pray that God will continue to heal wounded hearts in Ukraine through the trauma healing program? Let’s pray that every Ukrainian will be able to experience Psalm 40:1-2:

“I waited patiently for the Lord’s help; then he listened to me and heard my cry. He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure.”
