A New Bible for Young Koreans

Pray for the completion of a Bible translation to reach South Korea’s youth

Did you know, South Korea is one of the biggest distributors of the Bible? For over 120 years, Korean Bible Society has labored to spread God’s Word around the world. They translate, publish, and donate Bibles to other nations, especially nations that have difficulty sharing God’s Word due to economic, political, or religious reasons.

In 2018, Korean Bible Society provided more than 6 million Bibles for 118 countries in 217 languages. Praise God for this wonderful work!

But even as Bibles are reaching people around the world, there’s a need for God’s Word to reach the hearts of the young people in South Korea.

Reaching Young Koreans with God’s Word

Korean churches celebrate 1882, when missionary John Ross first translated the Bible into Korean. It marks the starting point when the Bible became available to ordinary Koreans. Many people gave their life to Jesus and by the early 2000s, Korea was second to only the United States in the number of missionaries it sent across the globe.

Today, around 30% of South Koreans are Christian. However, there is a great need to connect younger generations of South Koreans with God’s Word. The Korean Bible currently used by the church is an older translation of the Bible. Many young people simply cannot understand it.

Korean Bible Society is working on a new translation of the Bible that uses a more contemporary language. It will aid youth in reading the messages of hope found in God’s Word. The translation has been in process for over seven years and is currently undergoing final editing. The plan is to release the New Testament by 2020 and the Old Testament by 2021 in both print and digital versions.

Will you join us in praying that God’s Word will spark a generation of young Christ-followers in South Korea?

Let’s Pray Together:

God, thank you for helping the Korean Bible Society provide Bibles around the world. We pray that you would also bless the Korean translation project. Please guide all the details including editing, publishing, and distribution. And we pray that many young Koreans will give their life to Jesus as they read your Word.
