Liberia a Nation in Desperate Need of Hope

Bringing God’s healing to the beautiful people of Liberia

Liberia is paralyzed by a chronic fuel shortage.

For over a month, this small nation on the west coast of Africa has been living with close to no gasoline. Vehicles are lined up at gas stations. People sleep in their cars as they wait for hours. Scarcity has forced taxis and buses to hike fares so high that Liberians are unable to get to work and children unable to attend school.

No fuel means goods are not being moved around the country. Stores are empty. Prices of all commodities, sky high.

Liberians need hope. The hope that is found in Jesus.

Healing Wounded Hearts in Liberia

Liberia is a nation that has endured much trauma. A 15-year civil war (1989-2003) demolished the nation’s economic system and left many Liberians in poverty. Then in 2014, the Ebola virus killed more than 4,800 people.

Liberians have been living with emotional and psychological scars of war and disease for decades.

In the aftermath of these tragedies, Bible-based trauma healing ministry is helping Liberians heal from their trauma. Using Scripture, trauma healing facilitators empower participants to identify their pain, share their suffering, and bring their pain to the cross of Christ for healing.

Bible Society in Liberia has been working with churches to train trauma healing facilitators and make healing groups available to traumatized individuals. And God is healing lives!

But trauma healing ministry has been put on hold due to the fuel crisis. Although a recent delivery of fuel brought temporary relief, the frequent fuel shortages are a constant interruption to Liberians’ way of life and a threat to their future.

Liberia needs your prayers. Will you join us in asking God to turn things around for this nation?

Pray for:

  • Healing. Ask God to heal Liberians from the terrible pain caused by civil war, disease, poverty, and constant fuel shortages.
  • Wisdom. Pray for wisdom for leaders to resolve the fuel crisis and for all forms of corruption to be removed from government.
  • Trauma Healing Ministry. Pray for all trauma healing activities to resume, including healing groups, training of facilitators, and printing of materials.
