Nicaraguans Seek an End to Violence

Pray for God’s Word to bring peace and hope to the people of Nicaragua

In April 2018, Nicaraguan university students took to the streets to protest the government’s proposed reforms to the Social Security tax system. Although the reforms were eventually cancelled, opposition towards the government grew.

The student-led protest, which many had hoped would bring justice to Nicaragua, turned deadly. From rubber bullets to live ammunition, hundreds were tragically killed in violent protests—many of them students.

God’s Word in the Midst of Chaos

As tensions continued to mount, believers moved into action through Bible distribution.

Rebecca Marisol Alfaro Pauthza of Bible Society of Nicaragua shared their heart for healing. “The hope is that by providing God’s Word to both students and police, they will have an encounter with God and trust he is the only who can make profound changes in their hearts.”

In a matter of months, Bible Society of Nicaragua distributed more than 8,000 Bibles and Scripture Portions to students, their family members, police, and community members. They also partnered with Christian leaders at universities to create devotionals for students.

The results are evident. “We have seen how God is bringing tranquility. We know that God is working in Nicaragua,” says Pauthza.

Praying for Nicaragua

As Nicaraguans cling to the hope found in God’s Word, please join us in lifting them up in prayer. Pray for:

  • Students. Pray that God’s Word will help students place their hope in him. Pray that they will turn to God for solutions to the socio-political problems facing Nicaragua.
  • Bible Society of Nicaragua. Pray for their wisdom. Ask God to strengthen them so they can continue to carry God’s Word to families in Nicaragua facing despair.
  • Leaders and Politicians. Ask God to intervene in the hearts of the leaders and politicians, so that there will be peace in the country. Pray for an end to the violence.
