Hispanic church leaders in Phoenix recently came together to listen, share, and discuss how their churches were doing and how they could further support Hispanic believers. But their time together unveiled an alarming truth—although their church attendance is up, many of their congregants aren’t reading their Bibles.

These church leaders know that for their congregants to experience God in a richer way, they need to do more than attend church—they also need to develop a daily habit of Bible reading.

So this coalition of Hispanic church leaders sprang into action with a plan to encourage their congregants to intentionally spend time with the life-transforming power of God’s Word.

A Month Together in the Book of Acts

To bolster congregant’s excitement and commitment to reading the Bible daily, these Hispanic leaders decided, Let’s read the Bible together!

So in September 2017, Hispanic pastors in Phoenix will unite to take their congregations on a thirty-day Bible reading journey through the book of Acts. American Bible Society is providing study guides both in Spanish for first-generation families who predominantly speak Spanish and in English for second-generation families who are bilingual. The study guides will be available to participants in print and digital formats.

The goal is for one hundred churches to join this month-long Bible reading plan— deepening believers’ reliance on God’s Word and establishing Hispanic churchgoers in Phoenix as a body that loves and believes in the power of Scripture.

Will you join us in praying that this unified Bible reading initiative amongst Phoenix’s Hispanic churches will spark renewed passion for reading Scripture and that lives will be transformed as people regularly spend time in God’s Word?

• Unity and Collaboration among Hispanic Churches. Pray for the churches getting ready to embark on this month-long Bible-reading plan. Pray for church leaders from one hundred churches to join this effort, communicate openly, support one another, and be unified in their approach.
• Increased Bible Engagement. Pray for believers to grow in their hunger to read and apply Scripture. Pray that as they read Scripture, their lives would be transformed. Ask God to empower pastors and leaders to be models of Scripture engagement for their congregations.
• Creative Scripture Engagement Resources. Pray for the team of church leaders and marketing experts developing the digital and print Scripture engagement resources. Ask God to give them wisdom in creating, marketing, and deploying the content. Pray that no obstacles or delays would prevent these resources from being ready on time.
