Pray for U.S. Government Leaders as they Attend the National Prayer Breakfast

Pray for God’s Word to be a guiding light to the leaders of our nation

Each year, on the first Thursday of February, U.S. government officials gather in Washington D.C., along with more than 3,000 leaders from over 100 nations across the globe. The guests, which include prominent politicians, diplomats, religious leaders, and business leaders, assemble together for an event that has stood the test of time: the National Prayer Breakfast.

Dwight Eisenhower was the first president to attend the breakfast in 1953, which was designed to provide a time of prayer, thanksgiving, and fellowship. Since then, every U.S. president has upheld the tradition by participating, and this year is no exception. The next National Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for February 8.

American Bible Society and The Fellowship Foundation are supporting our leaders on this faith-focused day by providing God’s Word. Guests will receive a booklet containing portions of the Gospels and the book of Acts.

As these influential dignitaries from all over the world join together for a time of prayer, we praise God for the opportunity to put Scripture into their hands—and prayerfully, into their hearts.

Join us in prayer

We are praying for our leaders to love God’s Word, model God’s character, and lead our nation with godly intentions. We are asking for God’s hand to direct the hearts and minds of those in positions of power and authority, as it says in Proverbs 21:1: “The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases.”

Will you join us in seeking God on behalf of our leaders?

  • Pray that the National Prayer Breakfast would inspire the daily reading of God’s Word, and that through Scripture, they will be transformed by the renewing of their minds and compelled to lead by biblical principles.
  • Pray for their protection, strength, integrity, and wisdom. Ask God to give them guidance in all decision making.
  • Pray that God will direct their steps as they build relationships with visiting heads of state and ambassadors from other nations.
