Urgent: Please Pray for those Affected by Hurricane Irma

Ask God to intervene, as the strongest hurricane since 2005 disrupts millions of lives in the Atlantic basin.

What you need to know

Hurricane Irma, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Atlantic, hit the eastern Caribbean on Wednesday with winds of up to 185 miles an hour. The Category 5 storm has caused widespread destruction to properties and people in Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and Puerto Rico.

Many people are now homeless, without power and without hope.

And it’s not over. Hurricane Irma is predicted to hit Florida and move north this weekend, potentially bringing heavy rains, strong winds and flash flooding to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. These states are all under a state of emergency.

In times like these we turn to God’s Word for comfort. The Bible reminds us that God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble (Psalm 46.1 GNTD). At this critical hour, let’s pray that God will help those affected by this storm as well as those in its path. Ask God to rescue those in danger and to bring peace, hope and comfort to those suffering the effects of the storm.

Will you pray with us?

Pray for:

  • Provision and healing for the victims. Ask God to provide for those who have lost homes and possessions. Pray that God would physically, emotionally and spiritually heal all those affected by the storm. And that he would bring hope and peace in these difficult circumstances.

I pray that God will take care of all your needs with the wonderful blessings that come from Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:19 CEV

  • Protection for those still in Hurricane Irma’s path. Ask God to change the course of this storm so that it doesn’t bring any further destruction. Pray that God will cause the winds to die down and the storm to turn back to the sea. Also pray that tropical storm Jose does not form into a powerful hurricane.

When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you. For I am the LORD your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves you. — Isaiah 43:2-3 GNTD

  • Strength for first responders and caregivers. Pray that God will renew the strength of those responding to people in need around the clock. Pray that they will not run out of supplies and aid. Ask God to use them to not only rescue lives but to bring encouragement.

He strengthens those who are weak and tired. — Isaiah 40:29 GNTD

  • Wisdom for leaders. Pray that God will give wisdom to the leaders of the areas being affected by the storm. Ask God to guide them in making the right decisions for those they govern. Pray for the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda as he seeks to rebuild this nation where approximately 60% of the people have lost their homes. May God bring the aid, resources and help needed to restore what has been lost.

It is the LORD who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding. — Proverbs 2:6 GNTD
