Urgent: Pray as Earthquake and Tsunami Strike Indonesia

Together, let us bring the nation of Indonesia and the people of Sulawesi before God

On September 28, 2018, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi triggering a tsunami, taking the lives of more than 1200 people. Tragically, many Indonesians witnessed their loved ones swept away by the massive waves. The injured are in need of treatment but have limited access to medical supplies. Many thousands have lost their homes and face severe hunger and thirst.

Across the region, rescue workers continue to dig through the rubble of collapsed buildings hoping to find survivors. Although authorities race to aid victims, damaged roads and bridges have been washed out, hindering progress.

Your prayers can bring God’s peace and comfort to Indonesia

The people in Indonesia are hurting. They need our prayers—prayers for God’s unfailing love and mercy as we read in Lamentations 3:19-26 (GNT):

“The thought of my pain, my homelessness, is bitter poison. I think of it constantly, and my spirit is depressed. Yet hope returns when I remember this one thing: The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, Fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The Lord is all I have, and so in him I put my hope. The Lord is good to everyone who trusts in him, So it is best for us to wait in patience—to wait for him to save us."

How to pray for Indonesia:

  • Pray for grieving families. Ask God to comfort those who have lost loved ones. Pray for his peace to guard their hearts.
  • Pray for the injured. Ask God to heal the hurting. Pray for electricity to be restored in hospitals so people can receive the medical care they need.
  • Pray for first responders and rescue workers. Ask God to give them strength as they work day and night to save others. Also pray for their physical and emotional protection.
  • Pray for aid. Pray for food, water, and medical supplies to make their way to those who desperately need it. Also pray that hearts are stirred to give generously to help people who have lost everything.
