Urgent: Pray as Tennessee Suffers Deadly Tornadoes

Pray for God's healing and comfort for those affected by the tornadoes

Our hearts are grieving with the people of Tennessee.

When Tennesseans went to bed on March 2, no one imagined that the sun would rise on countless lives turned upside down. Overnight, a violent storm had ripped through four Tennessee counties. Two tornadoes with winds up to 175 mph touched down in Nashville early Tuesday morning.

Twenty-five people are dead, and many more are hospitalized with injuries. The destruction is unfathomable. Toppled electrical lines. Hundreds of destroyed buildings. Streets littered with debris.

Disasters like this remind us that we live in a fallen world. But Scripture reminds us that God is near in times of tragedy. Matthew 5:4 (CEV) says,

“God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort!”

We are praying that the people of Tennessee will be comforted during this incredibly difficult time. That amid uncertainty, confusion, and pain, God will draw near and wrap his arms around them.

Dealing with Pain

Rebuilding from a disaster of this magnitude will take time. The damage is physical, emotional, and spiritual. Many are traumatized.

To support Tennesseans in their spiritual recovery, American Bible Society is providing “Beyond Disaster,” a “spiritual first-aid” booklet for people who have survived natural disasters. Using Scripture and mental health best practices, this guide will help those who have suffered to recover emotionally and spiritually from their trauma.

We are praying for God to help and heal Tennesseans. Will you join us?
