Urgent: Pray for the Economic Crisis in Venezuela

God’s Word reminds the people of Venezuela that they are not alone

Your prayers are needed for the people of Venezuela.

Years of recession, drops in oil prices, and increasing national debt have resulted in unprecedented hyperinflation. As prices skyrocket and the value of money tanks, it’s becoming more difficult to survive. Finding and securing the most basic things like food and medicine are nearly impossible.

“Hunger and desperation afflict my people,” says Javier Chacon, general secretary of United Bible Societies in Venezuela. “We are sinking into a sea of insecurity, instability, and total darkness. This is a cry for help, as we are unable to face this storm alone.”

God’s Word for Venezuela

The Bible Society has asked for prayer. Since the crisis began, the staff has been working with local churches to provide God’s Word to thousands of Venezuelans. They believe in the truth of Scripture—that God is near, ready to help in our greatest hour of need.

“When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burned; the hard trials that come will not hurt you. For I am the LORD your God, the holy God of Israel, who saves you.” Isaiah 43:2-3a (GNT)

They want to continue providing God’s Word so that people can find hope through this storm. Will you join us in prayer for this nation?

4 Ways to Pray for Venezuela

  • The People. Pray that Jesus will bring peace to every person and meet their every need. Pray for their strength, safety, and security.
  • The Economy. Pray that God will bring about solutions that stimulate economic growth. Ask God to bring aid to this country. Also, pray against pride and political fighting amongst the leaders.
  • The Church. Pray that local churches will be bold and unwavering in sharing the gospel of Jesus. Ask God to strengthen the leaders and volunteers emotionally and spiritually to be able to serve their communities.
  • United Bible Societies in Venezuela. Pray for the staff's joy and stamina as they labor to provide God’s Word. Also, pray for safety and provision as their offices have been broken into and looted.
