The Rev. James Hainley has witnessed God's miraculous provision for more than 50 years. The first glimpse came when Jim was a young student experiencing doubts and uncertainties about God in the late 1950s. In the midst of his struggle, he encountered a professor who listened to his questions and challenged him to trust God with his life. Jim did. And his understanding of God's provision began.

This lesson followed Jim into his career as a civil engineer. By 1985, he was working as the head of an engineering office in Maryland but sensed God leading him to attend seminary and enter full-time ministry. When his superiors learned of Jim's desire to attend seminary, they gave him an ultimatum: either give up the idea of seminary and commit to the company or they would close the Maryland office and lay off the branch's employees.

Jim couldn't commit to the company, so the next day he informed his staff that the office would close. Immediately, he began to pray that his employees would find jobs. When his branch shut its doors two weeks later, his prayers had been answered. Every employee had secured a new job, and Jim was free to enroll in seminary.

These days, Jim continues to see God's provision through the two-life gift annuity that he set up for his wife and daughter with American Bible Society. During his years as a pastor, Jim frequently used Bibles and other resource materials from the Bible Society. Now he takes comfort in the thought that he can continue to support American Bible Society's work and provide for
his wife and daughter in the years to come.
