Crash! The horrible sound of a car accident right outside her home in South America jarred Ruth* awake. She ran out to see the unthinkable. “I saw my little brother lying on the ground. I can still remember that day. He died in my arms.”

Ruth was still grieving her father’s recent death and now her brother was gone. “I had so much pain in my heart that I could not describe,” she says. Her pain would only deepen.

“The loss of my father and little brother had a big impact in my life and also my family. Living with struggles and pain and anger was not easy. I wanted to escape,” she says. “That’s when I got pregnant at an early age from an alcoholic who abused me.”

Ruth thought her heart was broken beyond repair. Then, she met someone with the power to mend her heart — Jesus. The hurting young woman attended a Bible-based trauma healing workshop made possible by the support of American Bible Society financial partners. Ruth found hope again.

“The session helped bring healing to my heart. I learned to give myself to Jesus who restores my broken heart and feelings. There is power in God’s Word! We are able to receive healing through God’s Word,” Ruth says. “I no longer have depression, anger, and pain as before. Now I can testify about my experience and help others.”

Through the support of American Bible Society’s financial partners, we share God’s Word, offering healing to people devastated by grief, violence, abuse, and more. “I can imagine how it would have been if I had not gone through the trauma healing. I would not have survived with my sorrows, anger, and hatred in my life,” Ruth says.
