“I didn’t know much about Jesus.”
Helping to translate the Bible for 10% of the world’s population in the midst of a pandemic
Last year, our generous friends helped the Bible Society global network complete Scripture translations in 90 languages used by 794 million people — just over 10 percent of the world’s population!
Despite the chaos of COVID-19, for the first time ever, 11 million people from Bangladesh to Myanmar — representing 48 language groups — now have access to the Bible in their heart language.
In addition, new or revised translations in 43 languages used by 783 million people
were also completed, giving younger generations in many countries access to Scripture versions that they can understand more easily. One young woman in Guatemala joyfully said, “It is God speaking to our hearts.”
Translations were completed in print, in sign language, and in braille. As one young deaf man in Sri Lanka shared, “I didn’t know much about Jesus. I believe this could change my life.”
“This Bible restores my humanity,” declared a blind man as he read aloud from the first-ever Braille Bible in Swahili. “Now,” he continued, “I can attend church and worship God with other people.”
Thanks to the dedication of our friends and partners, an additional 10 percent of the world’s population at long last has the opportunity to experience the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.
