Sri Lankans Need Your Prayers

Continuing to keep Sri Lankan Christians covered in prayer

Last year, on Easter Sunday, an extremist group attacked churches and hotels in Sri Lanka’s biggest cities - Colombo, Negombo, and Batticaloa. Bombs killed more than 350 people, and over 500 were injured. Believers who gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Christ at Easter services were murdered, and the church is still reeling from the shock of these wounds.

At that time, the Bible Society and local churches worked together to bring the hope and healing of Jesus to those suffering after the attacks by:

  • Mobilizing more than 200 Bible-based trauma healing facilitators to lead healing groups
  • Distributing 200 Bibles in the Tamil language as well as 200 Tamil audio New Testament DVDs to members of the three bombed churches.
  • Providing a trauma healing Bible resource called “When Disaster Strikes” for churches to distribute to congregants
  • Launching a Bible-based trauma healing radio broadcast for mass outreach

More than one year after this horrible attack, we ask that you please continue to pray for the families who lost loved ones — for the children left to fend for themselves, for the husbands and wives who lost their other half, and for the mothers and fathers who will never hold their children again.

We are continually grateful for the support of our financial partners whose gifts helped to bring Sri Lankans fresh hope after disaster, true healing from pain, and new life in Jesus.

Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.

Help us share God's Word where needed most.
