In some of the world’s most dangerous places to be a Christian, the intense commitment to place God’s Word in hearts and hands has not only continued, but increased, during this second pandemic year. And in some of the poorest countries worldwide, Bible Societies doubled and even tripled their Scripture distribution in 2021!

The Bible Society global network is one of the largest translators and distributors of Scripture on the planet, providing roughly 70 percent of the world’s full Bible translations. They have persevered to meet the incredible demand for Scripture in the midst of staffing challenges, supply chain disruptions, and continued lockdowns.

Massive Scripture distribution efforts across Central and South America placed 1.6 million New Testaments in waiting hands, free of charge, with the majority going out in 2021.

The Bible Society director in Iraq reports, “God is performing miracles among people, and the church is growing. Persecution is still bad, but people are accepting Jesus as their Savior.” He adds, “We go to refugee camps with packages of food and aid, and always have a large stack of Bibles. We don’t hand out the Bibles, but they take all the Bibles we can bring. More Bibles are needed. The demand is huge all over the Iraq.”

For the worldwide Deaf community, efforts have increased to provide God’s Word in sign languages. Currently, only about 60 of the world’s 400 sign languages have at least some Scripture. Mai, a Vietnamese teenager who is deaf, says, “I believed in God, but I could not get to know Him reading the Vietnamese Bible.” Since having access to sign language Scripture videos, Mai says she can now understand 100 percent of the content.
