“Sometimes, I sit, cry, and ask God, ‘Why did this happen?’” Victoria’s words echo the sense of loss that is now pervasive among so many of the people in Ukraine.

For several terrifying months after the war began, Victoria’s village was occupied by Russian soldiers. “My entire yard was covered in bullet casings,” she shares. “I collected two handfuls of them.”

Victoria lost her husband, and then, a year later, when her 41-year-old son was killed, she and her neighbors were left to dig his grave themselves. She has suffered a great deal of heartache, and until recently, the only Bible she had was in Russian, which was hard for her to read and comprehend.

Victoria was extremely happy to receive one of the large-print Bibles you helped provide. When she read the title — The Message of Hope — in her Ukrainian heart language, she joyfully exclaimed, “This message is just for me!”
