Christians are a minority in Egypt and face the challenges of living in a culture where the Qur'an, which was written in Arabic and is considered holy only if it is in the original Arabic, is believed to be the final revelation of God. The most revered and popular Holy Bible in Egypt is the 150-year-old Van Dyke translation in Arabic. It is a word-for-word translation from the original biblical languages and is hard for modern-day speakers to understand.

A new translation of the Bible that uses contemporary Arabic is available but not in active use by most congregations. The Bible Society of Egypt features an interactive multimedia educational experience — Bible World — designed to teach young people how to understand the new translation.

Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.

Help us share God's Word where needed most.
