3 Things You Can be Certain of in Uncertain Times

Looking to Jesus, when nothing makes sense

When my children ask me, “Why is this happening?” “How long will the coronavirus last? “Why doesn’t God just stop it?” I don’t know what to say.

I’m tempted to give an answer that would offer some type of explanation and wipe away all their fears. But I have to be honest and just say, I don’t know.

Admitting that I don’t know, reminds me that I can’t control this. Only God, the creator of the universe knows how to handle a pandemic. His thoughts and ways are not like ours, they are higher (Isaiah 55:8-9). The best answer I can offer in the midst of uncertainty is to fix our eyes and hope on him.

If you’re struggling to make sense of all that is going on, don’t. Instead turn to Jesus in prayer. Trust in his wisdom and power.

Here are three truths you can cling to when nothing makes sense:

1. God is always moving. Although our lives have come screeching to a halt, God is not sitting still. We may not always see what he is doing, but God is definitely on the move.

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

2. When we are weak, God is strong. When fear, grief, and anxiety weigh down our hearts, that’s when God invites us to lean on him. That is when we can trust he is God and we are not.

“But he replied, “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

3. God loves you, he hears you. When we are suffering, we may question God’s love. But God will never abandon you. His love is everlasting.

“The LORD is good! His love and faithfulness will last forever.” – Psalm 100:5

Let’s Pray Together

Father, I fix my hope on you. I trust in your mighty power to rescue, heal, and protect me in this moment of uncertainty and chaos. You are my God.
