Answered Prayer! Healing Breaks Out in Ghana Witch Camp
God heals vulnerable women in Ghana through Bible-based trauma healing ministry
Yayra was accused of being a witch. It was an indictment that came with beatings and humiliation. Then Yayra was exiled from her home and sent to live in a witch camp.
For decades, Ghanaian women falsely accused of practicing witchcraft have been banished to remote camps in Northern Ghana. They live in flimsy mud houses with thatched roofs.
Abandoned by their families and forgotten by society, these women are trapped in the camp until they die. Some of the women have lived in these camps for more than 30 years!
But God has not abandoned these women. He loves them. And he longs to “heal their broken hearts and bind up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
Bible-Based Trauma Healing Ministry
In 2016, Bible Society of Ghana started caring for these women through Bible-based trauma healing. Trauma healing brings together a small group of trauma survivors to listen through a series of Bible-based lessons. By combining mental health practices with the healing power of Scripture, the brokenhearted can find healing.
And that’s exactly what happened to Yayra! She had been waiting to take revenge on those who hurt her but after participating in a trauma healing group she decided to forgive instead.
Another woman said she felt like killing herself after being accused of witchcraft but now has hope for life.
Praise God! He is healing these women from the darkness of trauma. In 2019, 750 women experienced the healing power of Scripture through healing groups in two camps.
But more prayer is needed!
The trauma healing ministry is expanding to include an audio version. Launching audio trauma healing will help traumatized women who cannot read or write finally be able to participate in this life-changing ministry.
Will you join us in praying for more Ghanaian women to experience God’s healing and comfort?
Let’s Pray Together
God, thank you for healing the wounded hearts of our sisters in Ghana. We pray that you will make the audio trauma healing ministry successful in spreading your Word to all those who need healing.
