Answered Prayer! Help for Struggling Families in Peru Quarantine

The Bible Society of Peru creatively provides for physical and spiritual needs amidst COVID-19

Scripture tells us “The king will answer, ‘Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me’” (Matthew 25:40, CEV). The Bible Society of Peru shows this bold ministry response by meeting physical and spiritual needs worsened by COVID-19. By adapting their program given quarantine restrictions, the Bible Society is bringing creative provision in the love of Christ.

The “Bread of Life” Campaign

An estimated 17.5% of children below five years of age in Peru suffer from chronic malnutrition. Through the “Bread of Life” campaign, the Bible Society of Peru has reduced early age sickness and enhanced children’s learning potential by bringing meals and the message of God’s love through illustrated Bible stories by age in class. However, due to quarantine, Bible classes were unable to meet. Special permits were needed to buy and distribute groceries and Bible materials to local communities difficult to reach.

Groceries and Scriptures Reach Remote Communities

The Bible Society of Peru was able to overcome obstacles to obtain permits to bring groceries and Bible resources to 17 communities in Cusco, Peru. With tears in her eyes, one mother said, “I used to sell the street but no longer can. I had no food for my children. Thank you for the help and the Bible stories!” Mothers came to receive groceries and illustrated Scriptures for their children with joy and gratitude.

One of the volunteers, Alberto said, “the children asked me to stay and teach them about the Bible.” Some young girls joyfully shared, “we’ll read right now, brother. And when you return, we’ll tell you everything.”

During quarantine, a total of 913 families received groceries and Scriptures. By God’s grace, the “Bread of Life” brought food for the body and soul.

Let’s Praise God Together

Lord God, we praise you for making a way for food and Scripture to reach hundreds of families in need in Peru. Thank you for answering prayers to bring hope and provision for those struggling especially during this pandemic. We see and feel your delight in the love of the Bible Society of Peru over this outreach expression. We celebrate the gospel seeds sown in your name and in your love!
