5 Bible Verses to Guide You into the New Year

As you step into a new year, you can find confidence in a never-changing God

The start of a new year can bring a lot of different emotions.

Anticipation. Weariness. Fear. Excitement. Discouragement. Impatience.

You might be experiencing some of these emotions as we look forward to the new year. Maybe you’re tired after a long and difficult year and dreading what the next year holds. Maybe you’re feeling disheartened about something in your life and are unsure of how to move forward. Maybe you have big changes on the horizon and are filled with anxiety and doubt.

God’s Word offers encouragement for every season. In the Bible, we learn how much God loves us, the countless ways he cares for us, and the many blessings he offers us through Jesus Christ. But one of the most precious truths we can discover in the Bible, as we anticipate a new year, is this: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8 GNT).

While we can’t know what the new year holds or how our lives may change, we can rest in the knowledge that Jesus—and his eternal love for us—will never change.

Here are five more verses to meditate on as you look to God’s Word to guide you into the new year!

You can rest securely in your salvation through Jesus Christ.

For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can boast about it.

Ephesians 2:8-9 GNT

You can trust that God will be with you through every experience.

“Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 GNT

You can have confidence in the power of the gospel as you share it with loved ones, friends, and neighbors.

I have complete confidence in the gospel; it is God’s power to save all who believe, first the Jews and also the Gentiles.

Romans 1:16 GNT

You can continue in good works with joy and expectation.

Let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest.

Galatians 6:9 GNT

You can praise God and remember his kindness to you, no matter what the new year brings.

Praise the Lord, my soul!
All my being, praise his holy name!
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and do not forget how kind he is.

Psalm 103:1-2 GNT
