Need Hope Today? Guide Your Prayers with These 3 Scriptures

Ask God to encourage your heart with hope by guiding your prayers with Scripture’s promises

When was the last time you felt good about the future?

Many of us spend our days watching negative news stories flash across our screens. We try our best to avoid heated debates on politics and religion with friends and family members. We see division growing in our churches, schools, and communities.

It’s no surprise that we often find hope in short supply.

To some of us, hope might seem like an unachievable dream. But Scripture tells us that not only is hope real—it also finds its source in a loving God:

May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13 GNT

While we will face uncertainty, suffering, and struggles on this earth, Scripture tells us that we can find true and lasting hope in relationship with God through Jesus Christ. This relationship offers us hope for each day (Lamentations 3:22–23) and certainty for our eternal future (1 Peter 1:3–5).

You can grow closer to your heavenly Father by reviewing his promises in Scripture. When you struggle to have hope for the future, remember these three truths from God’s Word.

3 Biblical Reminders to Encourage You in Hope

When you face uncertainty or fear, remember God’s plans for your future.

“I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.”

Jeremiah 29:11 GNT

If you feel despair creeping in, remember that the Bible is a source of hope for your daily life.

Everything written in the Scriptures was written to teach us, in order that we might have hope through the patience and encouragement which the Scriptures give us.

Romans 15:4 GNT

As God grows you in hope through his Word, remember that you can share that hope with others.

Have reverence for Christ in your hearts, and honor him as Lord. Be ready at all times to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you.

1 Peter 3:15 GNT

Ways to Pray

  • Meditate on the fact that God has good plans for your future. Remember that there is nothing that could surprise him. Consider the fact that he is powerful enough to work even your deepest heartbreak for good in your life. Thank God for his love and care for you and ask him to help you trust him each day.
  • The Bible tells us that we can grow in hope by spending time in God’s Word. Pray for God to help you remain committed to spending time in Scripture each day.
  • As you seek to grow in hope, ask God to help you look for ways to encourage others. Spend time praying for those in your life who don’t know Jesus. Ask God to give you opportunities to share the hope of the gospel with them.
