God is a Good Father—Jesus Says So
Discover How Your Father in Heaven Loves You
What is your father like?
Maybe your father played ball with you every Saturday growing up. Perhaps he protected you from bullies and told you he was proud of you.
Maybe your father hurt you. Perhaps even the thought of your dad forms a knot in your stomach and a sense of childhood dread.
Or maybe your father has passed away. When you catch a scent that reminds you of his cologne, your eyes mist over and you long to hug him again.
A Father Who Loves You Perfectly
This Father’s Day, as we remember our earthly fathers, we can celebrate our heavenly Father as well. The Bible says that God is a Father who guides us (Isaiah 64:8). He shows earthly fathers how to love their children. And he reminds those who didn’t have loving fathers that he is there for them.
During his time on earth, Jesus talked about his Father’s love to his friends and followers. The truths Jesus expressed about God are just as applicable for us today as they were for his listeners over 2,000 years ago. Take a moment to read through these verses and remember your heavenly Father’s love for you.
Your Father is a good listener.
“They took the stone away. Jesus looked up and said, ‘I thank you, Father, that you listen to me.’”
John 11:41
Your Father is a good provider.
“As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7:11
Your Father sees you as valuable.
“For only a penny you can buy two sparrows, yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. As for you, even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth much more than many sparrows!”
Matthew 10:29-31
Your Father wants to be with you forever.
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
This Father’s Day, as you remember your earthly father, take time to thank your heavenly Father for seeing you, knowing you, and wanting you as his very own child.
Prayer
God, we love you. Thank you for being a perfect Father. As we rejoice in your unstoppable love for us, remind us to honor our earthly fathers. Thank you for hearing our prayers and providing all we need. Thank you for seeing us as worthy of your love and sacrifice. You made us in your image; please refine us to be pure reflections of you in all we say and do. Amen.
