Hebrews 13:8 GNT

In the twelfth episode of our “Letters from Paul” video series, you’ll explore Hebrews 13:1-8, which shares practical insights on how to love others as ourselves.

While we don’t know who wrote Hebrews, it is most often attributed to Paul. It is likely that this book was written to a group of Jewish Christians who knew the Old Testament well and were familiar with the story of Abraham and the covenant promises of God. Many in the community were facing persecution and imprisonment because of their faith. Because of this, the book of Hebrews contains practical encouragement for how to remain strong in the Lord.

In this passage, the author encourages us to show Jesus’s love to others by welcoming strangers into our homes, ministering to those in prison, and remembering those who are suffering. These outpourings of service are good ways to love others as we love ourselves. In addition, the author warns against loving money and challenges us to be content in God and his promise to never leave or abandon us. Because of God’s love for us, we can say with the Hebrews that he is our helper, and we are not afraid.
