Liana’s Favorite Books: Episode 1

American Bible Society’s librarian shares a 1671 edition of the Gospels in the Gothic language.

In this inaugural episode of our new video series, “Liana’s Favorite Books,” American Bible Society’s beloved librarian, Dr. Liana Lupas, is pleased to share a historic Gothic translation of the Gospels. This 1671 edition is a polyglot containing the Gothic, Swedish, Islandic, and Latin texts.

The Goths were the first Germanic tribe to accept Christianity and to have a Bible in their language. In fact, this is one of the earliest translations of the Bible ever produced!

We hope you enjoy this Bible adventure with Dr. Lupas:
