World AIDS Day

Battling the disease; serving the survivors

December 1 was World AIDS Day, a day when people renewed their battle against this worldwide scourge. American Bible Society has joined many other Bible Societies in the United Bible Societies fellowship to provide education and assistance to populations hit by HIV/AIDS, like Swaziland’s Bible Society, responding to the survivors of this silent war.

Recently, ABS partnered with the Bible Society of Gabon in a program to reduce early sexuality and HIV infection among children. In Gabon, the age group most affected by HIV is 15–24 years. Targeting this population—and younger children—with educational tools that teach them to make accountable choices grounded in good values is a strategic priority that could affect the entire society.
