Hope for Syrian Refugee Families in Jordan

Pray for Bible-based trauma healing to deliver God’s peace to the hurting

Syria’s deadly civil war took a devastating toll on Maya* and her family.

Afraid of being ambushed by rebel groups, Maya and her children slept in jackets with their bags packed. She didn’t allow talking for fear she’d miss the warning sounds of gunfire. The family was ready to flee at a moment’s notice.

They lived in this state of fear for two years. “It was two full years of horror,” said Maya. Emotionally exhausted, the family fled to Jordan.

The Power of Bible-based Trauma Healing

According to the UN Refugee Agency, Jordan is home to more than 600,000 Syrian refugees like Maya. Recognizing the need to address trauma experienced by these refugees, Bible Society in Jordan launched Bible-based trauma healing to introduce the healing power of God’s Word.

Maya joined a trauma healing group. There, as she heard the words of Scripture, God spoke to her heart. As she discovered the truth of God’s nature, his love, his peace, his plan for her life, she noticed a transformation taking place within her.

“I learned that I should forgive. God is forgiving, so I should forgive the people around me. Yes, I can forgive the people who caused the war because I know that God has my back.”

God’s Word has brought peace and comfort to Maya and her family. They no longer live in fear. Instead, they have gained hope and confidence from God’s love.

So far, more than 100 refugees have found peace through the ministry of trauma healing in Jordan. We are praying that many other displaced families in the Middle East will have the same opportunity to receive God’s hope and healing.

Let’s Pray:

Father, thank you for the newfound peace Maya and her family are experiencing. We pray that the trauma healing ministry will reach even more Syrian families needing healing. We pray for those volunteering to lead trauma healing to be strengthened for this work.
