Healing Wounded Hearts: Reaching cities with the hope of God’s Word

3 ways to pray for the expansion of Bible-based Trauma Healing in the United States

What would happen if church, marketplace, and nonprofit leaders from various denominational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds unite to reach their city with the gospel of Jesus?

This question inspires organizations around the country as they launch Bible-based Trauma Healing ministries in partnership with American Bible Society.

Since 2011, American Bible Society has stewarded the small group, Bible-based Trauma Healing material, Healing the Wounds of Trauma and the adjoining program model. The program brings people together in a safe place to share their story, lament, and read God’s Word in light of their suffering.

Bible-Based Trauma Healing Reaches Cities across the United States

American Bible Society partners with organizations around the country who want to grow and expand this Bible-based Trauma Healing Ministry to help bring God’s healing to cities in America. American Bible Society’s Trauma Healing Ministry does this by training and equipping lay leaders in the church to guide their community to share their pain using Scripture. Here are some organizations working to bring the healing power of Scripture to suffering people in their cities:

  • Love Baltimore is equipping facilitators from churches and various organizations using Trauma Healing curriculum. So far, a number of churches are offering Healing Groups to help people dealing with the ongoing trauma of poverty, violence, homelessness, and addiction in the city of Baltimore.
  • Boston Trauma Healing Collaborative has a goal of sharing the Trauma Healing Ministry with 100 churches in Boston within the next five years. Their goal is to train and equip churches and communities to become more trauma informed as they respond to wounded people in their city.
  • Transform Minnesota seeks to equip churches in the critical issue of trauma so that churches in the Twin Cities can help traumatized people heal from generational trauma, violence, PTSD, and collective and community trauma.
  • To Equip His People has a vision to reach the Midwest Region (Chicago, IL, Cleveland, OH, and Lexington, KY) with Healing Groups that address a myriad of trauma. They hope to build a hub for Trauma Healing that will serve the Midwest region.

Through your prayers, we can see cities across America impacted by the healing power of Scripture. Will you join us in praying for the hundreds of expressions of this unique ministry being experienced throughout the country?

3 Ways to Pray

Pray for the church and ministry leaders proclaiming the gospel through Bible-based Trauma Healing ministries. Father, we thank you for the many ways the gospel is being proclaimed through Healing Groups. We pray a blessing over each person that facilitates a group. We ask for protection over those that gather as they lay their heart wounds down at the Cross of Jesus.

Praise God that wounded hearts are being healed through the Bible. Father, we celebrate that according to a recent study, nearly 93 percent of those who participated in a Bible-based healing group experienced decreased trauma symptoms. In this study involving 3,000 participants across 24 countries, we rejoice in the tangible ways your word brings hope to the hurting.

Pray for those using Trauma Healing Ministry to reach the traumatized in their cities. God, we pray for Love Baltimore, Boston Trauma Healing Collaborative, Transform Minnesota, To Equip His People, and all other organizations working to care for hurting people in their cities. Empower them and give them favor as they train others in Trauma Healing Ministry. We ask you to provide resources—financial, material, and human—in order for them to carry out this work.
