National Day of Prayer 2022: Here’s 7 Ways to Pray for America

On May 5, download this guide to pray for Americans to be transformed by God’s Word

Nearly 250 years ago, the Continental Congress called for Americans to turn to God in prayer and meditation for their budding nation.

Since then, the National Day of Prayer emerged as a day of prayer and solidarity—inviting people of all faith backgrounds to unite in prayer for America. On February 3, 1952, the young Evangelist Billy Graham led 20,000 people in prayer for the nation in Washington, DC. This growing prayer movement led President Harry Truman to eventually sign a bill on April 17, 1952, proclaiming a National Day of Prayer to “beseech God to grant us wisdom.”

This year, we join National Day of Prayer gatherings across the country on May 5, 2022, to pray for our nation. We reflect on this year’s national observance theme which calls us to exalt the Lord who has established us, according to Colossians 2:6-7 (CEV):

You have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord. Now keep on following him. Plant your roots in Christ and let him be the foundation for your life. Be strong in your faith, just as you were taught. And be grateful.

To be inspired in your prayers for our nation on this historic day, you’re invited to download our “7 Ways to Pray for America” prayer guide. This resource offers you specific ways to intercede for America to be established according to the wisdom, hope, and beauty of God’s Word.
