Please Pray: How to Repair Racial Divides in America

Join us as we pray for critical conversations to bring racial healing in our nation

For generations black Americans have endured a breach of their human rights. They have been subjected to systemic racism and oppressive treatment. It’s time for their suffering to end. It’s time to repair the breach. To do so, we turn to God’s Word which offers insight on how to begin repairing racial divides.

“Those from among you
Shall build the old waste places;
You shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach,
The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.” – Isaiah 58:12 (NKJV)

Jerusalem laid in ruins. That’s when God gave Isaiah a message for the people of Israel. The message- you are repairers of the breach. God doesn’t say he will fix it; he says they will be the ones to restore and repair the broken places.

God has the same message for us today. Repairing deep racial divides begins with us, Christ followers. We are called to be repairers of the breach. The church must lead the way in addressing racial injustice in our nation and bringing unity and healing.

Special Webinar on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

On January 18, 2021, American Bible Society is hosting a special webinar entitled, “Repairing the Breach: Biblical reflections on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how to repair racial divides.” Special guests include Dr. Ed Stetzer and Dr. A.R. Bernard, who will offer perspective on how the Bible has informed the church’s engagement with race and culture from the times of Dr. King until now.

As church leaders and pastors confront racism through these types of conversations we need to pray. Our prayers invite the power and wisdom of God. Through prayer we can see an end to the destructive spirit of racism. And we can see God bring healing and racial justice. Will you pray with us?

3 Ways You Can Pray

Pray these conversations:

  • Bring Repentance. Pray that our eyes will be opened to see the error of our ways. Pray for humble hearts to listen with compassion and to repent and turn away from building corrupt systems of injustice.
  • Bring Healing. Ask God to heal the spiritual, emotional, and physical wounds black Americans and black communities have endured due to racism. Pray for the wounds of trauma to be healed through the power of Scripture.
  • Bring Change. Pray these conversations lead to societal transformation and the building of social justice reforms that are in alignment with Biblical truths. Ask God to raise up the church to be repairers of the breach that has long existed in America.
