Pray for America: 2018 National Day of Prayer

Join us on May 3, 2018, as we Pray for Unity in America

The Pledge of Allegiance celebrates America as “one nation, under God.” While we rejoice in the solidarity and strength we enjoy as a nation, we also acknowledge our history of division.

But God can put a divided nation back together again. Taking our nation’s troubles to him in prayer can bring about change and transformation.

“If they pray to me and repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them in heaven, forgive their sins, and make their land prosperous again.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

National Day of Prayer invites us to do exactly that—join together in prayer on behalf of our nation and ask God to make it whole again.

What is National Day of Prayer?

National Day of Prayer has been around since 1775 when the Continental Congress set aside a time for prayer while forming our new nation. On April 17, 1952, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming a National Day of Prayer to “beseech God to grant us wisdom.” Today, this annual observance, held on the first Thursday of May, invites people of different backgrounds and faiths to unite in prayer for America.

It is estimated that two million people will join 35,000 prayer gatherings organized by 40,000 volunteers. They will pray at churches, schools, businesses, state capitols, county court houses, and homes across America.

Will you join in prayer for our nation on May 3?

Three Ways to Pray for Unity in America

  • Pray for unity in churches and a spiritual awakening in cities across America.
Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together.
    Ephesians 4:3 (GNTD)
  • Pray for families to be united around God’s Word as they read and apply his principles.
You word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.
    Psalm 119:105 (GNTD)
  • Pray for God to unite hearts and minds in wisdom and truth.
But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all.
    James 1:5 (GNTD)
