Urgent: Pray for Haiti facing earthquake and Afghanistan in national turmoil

Join us in praying for Haiti devastated by an earthquake and Afghanistan fallen to Taliban rule

Over the weekend, we learned the shocking news of another devastating earthquake in Haiti and the Taliban’s sudden seizure of power in Afghanistan. Our hearts are broken for the suffering, fear, and uncertainty Haitians and Afghanis face in the aftermath of these catastrophic events. Amid these crises caused by natural disaster and socio-political unrest, we pray for Haitians and Afghanis who are loved by God. These nations need our prayers urgently.

As we cry out for divine peace, healing, and stability in these countries, we declare the promise of Psalm 34:18 (GNT), “The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope.”

Pray for Healing as Haiti Reels from Earthquake Destruction

On August 14, Haiti experienced a devastating 7.2-magnitude earthquake which killed at least 1,300 people. The quake hit the poorest nation in the Western world that had yet to recover from the destructive quake of 2010, striking just six-weeks after the murder of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. The recent earthquake demolished 13,694 homes and left 13,785 damaged in Haiti. Haitians fear this tragedy will further exacerbate medical shortages affecting the nation that also faces one of the worst outbreaks of COVID-19 in the western hemisphere. Amid such need, we call upon God who is our healer.

Pray for Hope as Afghanistan Faces Fear through Taliban Takeover

On August 15, the Taliban swiftly captured Kabul, signifying complete seizure of Afghanistan. The streets of Afghanistan were eerily quiet and gripped with fear following this takeover, while violence erupted at Kabul’s airport as thousands of Afghanis sought to flee the chaos. The international community has responded with deep concern for reported human rights abuses led by terrorist groups. While there is fear the country will descend into chaos, we call fervently on God who is our hope.

Will you pray with us for Haiti and Afghanistan to experience national healing and restoration?

Here are 3 Ways to Pray:

Pray God’s restoration for suffering people. Pray for supernatural peace, comfort, and hope to restore the spirits of those crushed by the devastating earthquake in Haiti and the terror-driven chaos in Afghanistan. Pray for those who mourn the loss of loved ones and those who are fearful for their future. Pray for physical healing for those impacted by the earthquake and for the safety of those who are fearful for their lives due to terrorism and persecution in Afghanistan. Pray for salvation as Haitians and Afghanis experience the love of God that eradicates fear.

For the beautiful people of these nations, pray guided by 1 John 4:18 -(GNT), “There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment.”

Pray for wisdom for national governments. Pray for wisdom for the Haitian government seeking to lead this nation through crises amid failing infrastructure and resource shortages. Pray for protection over search and rescue missions underway as they bring aid, especially in areas difficult to access by road in Haiti. Ask God to restrain the Taliban in Afghanistan from evil and guide them to pursue righteousness and justice in accordance with God’s Word. Pray for the establishment of peaceful government in Afghanistan that leads to the prosperity of its men, women, and children. Pray for wisdom and protection over other governing bodies as they seek to restore order and stability in these nations.

For national leaders, pray guided by 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (GNT): “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be offered to God for all people; for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all reverence toward God and with proper conduct. This is good and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to know the truth.”

Pray for Bible ministry among those hurting. Pray for favor for the Haitian Bible Society as they bring God’s Word where it is most needed and offer Bible-based trauma healing in response to the earthquake. Pray for protection over Christians in Afghanistan who face an uncertain future and the risk of increased persecution. Ask God to provide for local faith communities in Haiti seeking to help meet the urgent needs of those in their communities. Pray that those affected by trauma in the wake of these crises will discover the healing power of God’s Word.

For those wounded by trauma, pray according to Isaiah 61: 1-3 (GNT):

The Sovereign Lord has filled me with his Spirit. He has chosen me and sent me, to bring good news to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted, to announce release to captives, and freedom to those in prison. He has sent me to proclaim that the time has come when the Lord will save his people and defeat their enemies. He has sent me to comfort all who mourn, to give to those who mourn in Zion joy and gladness instead of grief, a song of praise instead of sorrow. They will be like trees that the Lord himself has planted. They will all do what is right, and God will be praised for what he has done.
