Prayer Needed: Will South Sudan Receive Christ’s Love Over the Radio?
Pray that people in South Sudan would experience healing through an audio Bible-based trauma healing ministry
Since gaining its independence in 2011, South Sudan—the world’s newest country—has seen extreme conflict. Strife between the nation’s two largest ethnic groups, the Dinka and the Nuer, have torn the nation apart—with both sides committing atrocities against civilians.
Traumatized from being tortured, seeing loved ones killed, or fleeing their homes in search of refuge, the people of South Sudan are suffering.
People in South Sudan need a chance to hear Scripture’s powerful messages of God’s love and his power to heal.
The Radio Shares the Healing Power of God’s Word with Traumatized People
More than 2.3 million people in South Sudan have been displaced since independence. And as a result of the decades of conflicts leading up to its independence, South Sudan has the lowest literacy rate in the world—27 percent adult literacy. But radios are common. Together, these factors make radio a strategic tool for sharing the restorative narrative of God’s Word.
That is why Bible Society in South Sudan has launched an audio version of their Bible-based trauma healing ministry. New radio programming gives traumatized people an opportunity to explore their emotional wounds through the lens of the Bible’s teachings about suffering and healing.
Bible Society in South Sudan is collaborating with a local FM radio station near the capital city of Juba to broadcast these restorative programs in the local language, Juba Arabic. Voice actors dramatize stories and discussions about themes from the Bible and share Scripture verses, giving listeners an opportunity to hear on their radios what the Bible has to say about suffering, grief, and Jesus’s power to heal their pain.
God, speaking through Scripture, can heal the deep emotional and spiritual wounds caused by these traumatic events. God reassures us:
- His love never fails. Lamentations 3:22
- He heals the brokenhearted. Psalm 147:3
- He wants to help. Psalm 46:1
Will you join us in praying for God to heal the wounded hearts of thousands of people living in Juba, Yei, and Mundri in South Sudan as they listen to Scripture over the radio airwaves?
Let’s Pray Together:
God, we pray that as Bible-based trauma healing episodes air in South Sudan, your Word would bring comfort to all those listening. Enable listeners to let go of their pain and to forgive their oppressors by the power of your Holy Spirit. We ask you to heal listeners’ deep emotional and spiritual wounds, replacing their hurt with your peace. We also ask you to help the staff of the Bible Society in South Sudan as they work with local churches and a local radio station to provide Bible-based trauma healing to a nation suffering from violence and division. We pray for healing across South Sudan.
