Prayer Request: Roman Catholic Initiatives in the U.S.

Pray for innovative resources to inspire increased Bible engagement among Roman Catholics.

Pope Francis, a passionate Bible advocate, recently told a crowd of young Catholics, “The Bible is your most precious treasure, now read it!”

Catholics across the U.S. are responding with an increased willingness to engage the Bible and live life as the Holy Scriptures instruct.

Let’s thank God for the mighty way God is moving in the Catholic Church. And let’s pray for God-inspired resources to serve the Catholic Church.

Background and Context:

Catholic leaders are looking for new ways to promote more Bible reading among their congregations. Together with dioceses across the nation, American Bible Society is working to create innovative resources that inspire more engagement with the Bible.

We need your prayer for several Catholic initiatives.

Pray for:

  • Pilgrimage is a Scripture engagement app for Catholic young adults. Its features include a digital journal, a reading goals tracker and notifications to help users stay up-to-date with the latest readings. Pray that many Catholic young adults will engage the Scriptures through this app.
  • A study guide on the Gospel of Matthew designed to help candidates for Confirmation and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults read a Gospel on their own as part of their preparation. Pray for this study guide to be an effective Scripture engagement tool.
  • A Lectio Training Video with leader’s guide helps people learn to prayerfully dialogue with God through Lectio Divina, a classic method of engaging with sacred texts. Pray that this program will introduce this classic method of Scripture engagement to a new generation of Catholics so they can encounter God in his Word.
