Prayer Update: Ukrainians are Turning to God’s Word Like Never Before

Let’s continue to pray that God’s Word will encourage, guide, and heal Ukrainians

Thank you for faithfully praying for the people of Ukraine. Since the war began, more than six months ago, Ukrainians have suffered unimaginable trauma.

But amid the suffering, God is providing strength and hope through his Word!

Thanks to your prayers, and the courageous work and dedication of churches and ministries on the ground, Ukrainians are turning to God’s Word like never before. Here are some highlights of the amazing Bible ministry that is helping to share God’s healing and hope with hurting Ukrainians.

Bible Distribution.

American Bible Society has been working to provide Bibles to people and churches in Ukraine. Dedicated volunteers distribute these Bibles to those who are displaced within the country as well as those, like the elderly and disabled, who are stuck in conflict zones. We are also providing Bibles to neighboring Bible Societies in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Moldova to support their relief efforts as they serve the growing number of refugees outside Ukraine. To date, we have provided and distributed more than 75K Bibles, including children’s Bibles, and more than 800K Scripture materials.

One Ukrainian man who received a Bible while sheltering in a school in Lviv said, “It is very important for me to have peace of mind. I always look for words of support here in the Bible …”

Bible-Based Trauma Healing Ministry.

Local churches have launched Bible-based Trauma Healing Ministry especially for traumatized children who have lost parents and relatives in the war. Trauma healing ministry combines Scripture and mental health best practices to help people heal from trauma and find hope for the future. Most recently, 80 children 9-14 years old participated at a Bible Summer Camp where they took part in trauma healing sessions.

One trauma healing facilitator said, “These children went through the process of rehabilitation, restoration, and renewal. We cannot unfortunately change their circumstances, change these terrible war conditions, but can rebuild their hearts, renew their emotions, and prepare them for walking in their lives with hope!”

Additional trauma healing materials like Beyond Disaster, which is a guide for spiritual first aid for people who have survived disasters, are also being shared with Ukrainians. More than 160k Beyond Disaster booklets have been distributed.

All Made Possible Through Your Prayers

In the midst of war, thousands of Ukrainians are encountering the peace they so desperately need because you prayed. Through your prayers, American Bible Society is able to provide Bibles to Ukrainian refugees who have lost everything, children who are traumatized, and displaced Ukrainians facing an uncertain future.

But we can’t stop praying now. The war is still going on. And many Ukrainians are still facing dire situations. They need our prayers. Let’s continue to pray for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters and for the ministry taking place to meet their spiritual needs. Let’s pray together:

Father,

We pray for an end to the war in Ukraine and that no more lives will be lost. We pray for an end to the suffering and that you will begin to restore this beautiful nation. For Ukrainians grieving loss, we pray that you will comfort them and draw near in their pain. Finally, for all those endeavoring to bring Bibles and Scripture resources to Ukrainians, we pray you grant us strength, endurance, and resources so that we can continue to bring your hope to everyone affected by this war. We pray in Jesus’s name. Amen.
