The Devastating Effects of Covid-19 on the Persecuted Church
Join us in prayer for persecuted Christians during the Covid-19 pandemic
More than 340 million Christians- that’s 1 in 8- face high levels of persecution and discrimination because of their faith, according to the 2021 World Watch List compiled by Open Doors.
Now Covid-19 has increased their vulnerability to even more discrimination.
In nations where Christians face the most pressure for following Jesus, they are being refused aid. They are often overlooked in the distribution of food, medical care, and other support systems. Unable to work because of lockdown, many Christians face the real threat of starvation. Sadly, Covid-19 is being used as another weapon to persecute Christians.
They Need Your Prayers
God hasn’t forgotten these precious believers. Psalm 22:24 (GNT) says:
“He does not neglect the poor or ignore their suffering; he does not turn away from them, but answers when they call for help.”
God cannot ignore their suffering. And neither can we. American Bible Society is providing spiritual aid as well as basic supplies to believers in heavily oppressed areas. By collaborating with partners in the region, we are able to provide access to the Bible using new technology. Now, Christians living in some of the most hostile regions of the world can draw strength and comfort from Bible-based materials including audio Bibles and the End-to-End program.
We cannot turn away from our brothers and sisters in this hour of need. They need our prayers. Will you pray?
3 Ways to Pray for Persecuted Christians
Pray for:
- Courage and Strength. Ask God to strengthen and protect those being harassed, abused, and neglected because of their faith. Pray for a steadfast faith and for their lives to reflect Jesus in the face of opposition.
- Aid. Pray for persecuted Christians to receive the humanitarian and spiritual aid they need. Pray that they’ll have access to medical assistance, food, and work. Also pray for wisdom and protection for those working to bring this aid to those in need.
- Churches. Pray that the persecuted church will continue to grow despite Covid-19 lockdowns. Pray for God’s Word to bring spiritual nourishment and encouragement to all believers, church leaders, and pastors.
