Urgent: Pray as Fiji Suffers Two Deadly Cyclones in a Month

Bible-based trauma healing ministry seeks to bring God’s healing to hurting Fijians

On January 31, 2021, Cyclone Ana, a category two storm, pummeled Fiji with unrelenting rain and winds of up to 87-miles per hour. It’s the second cyclone to hit Fiji in just over a month after Cyclone Yasa, a category five storm, made landfall in December.

One person has died, and five are still missing, including a three-year old boy. More than 10,000 people have been evacuated due to severe flooding and widespread damage to buildings. Most of the country remains without electricity.

People in Fiji are suffering. Their homes and livelihoods have been destroyed; their lives turned upside down. They face an uncertain future. But God’s Word offers healing and hope.

Healing Trauma with God’s Word

As Fijians grapple with the devastation caused by these two cyclones, Bible Society of the South Pacific (BSSP) is responding with the healing found in God’s Word. They have launched Bible-based trauma healing. The trauma healing program combines mental-health best practices with the wisdom of the Bible so that traumatized people can experience the love of Christ by taking their pain to the cross.

And God is healing hearts! BSSP conducted trauma healing groups in late 2020 after another cyclone, Harold, wreaked havoc across the Solomon Islands. Not only were the groups helpful for those suffering trauma after the storm, but it was also very helpful for villagers carrying a lot of hurt and trauma even before the cyclone. Now BSSP hopes to extend the trauma healing ministry to the worst affected communities in Fiji. But they need your prayers. The people of Fiji need your prayers.

Will you join us as we pray for Fijians to experience healing, restoration, and comfort through God’s Word?

3 Ways You Can Pray

Pray for:

  • The people. Ask God to wrap his arms of peace around those suffering trauma and grief due to the storms. Pray that many will have an opportunity to experience healing through the trauma healing ministry.
  • Bible Society of the South Pacific. Ask God to give them wisdom, strength, and resources so they can serve affected communities. Pray that God will bless all their efforts to bring his Word to 16 nations within the Pacific.
  • Aid. Pray for humanitarian aid to pour in and reach all those affected by the storms. Pray that people will give generously to help those in need.
