Urgent Prayer Alert: U.S. Mass Shootings

Join us as we pray for God’s healing for communities shaken by violence

Our hearts break in the aftermath of mass shootings in Buffalo, Laguna Woods, and Milwaukee this May. In tragic moments like these, Scripture reminds us that God is our helper.

I look to the hills!
Where will I find help?
It will come from the LORD,
who created heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1–2 (CEV)

We invite you to join us as we pray for God to help and comfort all those affected by the shootings across our nation this past weekend. Here’s how you can pray.

  • Pray that God would draw near to families grieving the loss of loved ones.
  • Pray for healing for those who were injured.
  • Pray for comfort and protection for all communities who fear attacks motivated by racial, religious, or ideological hatred.
  • Pray for God to intervene in our nation, disrupting cycles of violence and pouring out his transformative Word and Spirit in the hearts and lives of Americans.

Let’s Pray Together

Father, we grieve the loss of lives that were taken by shootings this weekend. We pray over the collective trauma caused by these acts in Buffalo, Laguna Woods, and Milwaukee. We pray for the healing of our land, using the words of 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV): “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Lord, heal those battling wounds from these shootings. Comfort those grieving the sudden loss of loved ones. Push back the forces of evil that underlie these tragic events.

As we pray for healing in our nation, we repent of the sins of division, hatred, and violence that rip us apart from one another and from you. We ask for your forgiveness and restoration. Help us speak truth in love. Empower us to show brotherly love, kindness, and mercy toward our neighbors.

We thank you for the grace of God that cleanses and renews us, and for the eternal hope we have in Christ. This hope leads us to cry out for redemption amid the brokenness in our communities. As we bring pain to the cross today, open our minds and hearts to be vessels of your eternal love and righteousness. May we see your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
