The Digital Bible Library Celebrates 10 Years of Sharing God’s Word!
Join us as we pray for God’s Word to reach every person on Earth
June 2021 marked the 10th anniversary of the world’s largest Bible library—the Digital Bible Library (DBL). Today, we celebrate the DBL which has made God’s Word available to millions of people by making it accessible through digital platforms.
The History of the Digital Bible Library
There are more than seven billion people alive today, speaking 6,059 distinct languages. Thanks to the tireless work of Bible translators, more than five billion people speaking nearly 2,200 languages have access to the Word of God in their heart language. But translation is just one part of getting God’s Word into the hands and hearts of those waiting. Once a translation is completed, it must be distributed.
That’s where the Digital Bible Library comes in!
The Digital Bible Library, which was launched by Every Tribe Every Nation—an alliance of Bible agencies, is a global repository for Scripture translations. These translations are digitized for print, audio, and video distribution. By placing Bible texts into one easy-to-access location, the DBL makes Scripture readily accessible to Christian organizations, ministries, and missionaries, enabling them to share God’s Word with those they serve in languages and formats with which they can engage. Additionally, the Digital Bible Library helps to supply God’s Word for Bible apps such as YouVersion.
The DBL started with less than 100 texts over a decade ago. Today there are 2,814 texts representing 1,773 languages, as well as nearly 1,400 audio Bibles in 890 languages. Content has also expanded to include Sign Language Video and Braille.
Praise God, the Digital Bible Library is making God’s Word available to millions of people around the globe. But there is still more work to be done. There are approximately 1,990 languages without any Scripture. That’s more than two billion people who are still waiting for God’s Word in their language. Join us in praying that God’s Word will be made available to every person on Earth through Bible translation and Bible distribution.
Let’s Pray Together
Father, we thank you for your continued help and grace in getting God’s Word to every tribe and every nation on Earth. We pray that the DBL will reach more people through its various digital platforms and through collaboration with partners. We also pray that Bible translation projects will be completed and that every person on Earth will hear the name of Jesus and seek to know him.
