New Jersey, Mission: Literacy

A volunteer helps a child learn to read using ABS resources.

The Record, a New Jersey newspaper, ran a story about an after-school program run by the Paterson Salvation Army. The program features “Mission: Literacy” materials from the American Bible Society that help teach reading skills through Scripture.

Dawn Sharp, a child-care consultant for the New Jersey Salvation Army, told the reporter that the organization had signed an agreement with the American Bible Society to become the sole distributor of the program for the next 10 years. There was no cost to the Salvation Army. So far, the program has also been used at Salvation Army centers in Newark and New Brunswick.

Thanks to the support of our faithful financial partners, American Bible Society has been engaging people with the life-changing message of God’s Word for more than 200 years.

Help us share God's Word where needed most.
