Juan’s* life is in danger. At age 8, he enjoys most things boys his age do. He loves to read, laugh, play and go to school. But Juan’s life and future are on the line. His neighborhood in Honduras is a danger zone.

Juan’s neighborhood, like many in Honduras, has seen growing numbers of murders and assaults due to gang violence. To make Juan’s situation even more precarious, his parents are out of the country seeking work. Juan lives with his aunt in a small apartment. “Sometimes I feel unprotected,” he says.

According to the United Nations, Honduras has one of the highest rates of homicide in the world. The young boy’s life is not only threatened, but his future is uncertain.

Because of where he lives, Juan is vulnerable to gang recruitment. That is why Bible distribution is so crucial and why the Bible Society is working hard to place children’s Bibles in the waiting hands of children like Juan.

With God’s Word in his life, Juan is learning how to grow into a strong man of God’s design. “When I received the Bible, I felt very happy,” Juan says. “It is helping me to have a better relationship with my parents even if they are far away, my aunt, my friends and classmates. … If I did not believe in God, I would be a bad person, a gang member and a criminal.”
