When Bintou* married a Christian woman, he played the role of witch doctor in his tribal religion in Central Africa. He explains how he had previously lived his life “in a village completely immersed in the native tradition, and I did not want to hear about another religion than that of my ancestors.”

Bintou was a leader in his village’s ancient religious tradition. He was very influential and provided spiritual counsel. He says, “People come from all over the country to solicit spiritual consultations with me.”

But one day, thinking of his wife, Bintou listened to an audio Bible, which was provided by caring partners like you. He later asked the local pastor to set up a listening group so he and his community could listen to the Bible together.

Through the generous compassion of our faithful partners, Bintou and his people were transformed by the Gospel as they listened to the Bible in their heart language!

“When I heard God speaking through the audio Bible, I asked myself a number of questions, including whether there was another God than the one given to me by my ancestors,” Bintou says. He spent time examining his true beliefs, both alone and with his audio Bible listening group.

He states, “Gradually, through regular attendance, I came to realize the evidence of the existence of the true God, full of love, who accepts us as we
are without rejecting us. I give glory to God, who began this process of transformation in my life.

“I am a living proof today for those who knew me . . . God is alive and great, and I gave Christ my life today.”
