Reel Hope Video Challenge Sends Volunteers to Africa

When Christy Mulberger got the invitation to join American Bible Society to distribute Bibles to orphans in Africa, she burst into tears of joy. Rosa Esparza says that when she was offered a spot on the trip, she was overwhelmed with emotion. For both Mulberger and Esparza, the opportunity was a dream come true.

And you could join them.

Mulberger and Esparza participated in American Bible Society’s Reel Hope challenge by submitting videos about why they wanted to help deliver Bibles to orphans in Africa. Anyone could submit a video to Reel Hope, which launched in November 2012 and continued through January 2013. Visitors to the site could vote for their favorite videos. Esparza’s and Mulberger’s videos each received more than 4,000 online votes each from visitors to ReelHope.org.

The next Reel Hope challenge will begin on February 13 and run through March 31. Participants who are 18 years of age or older can submit creative content in a variety of formats, including poetry, photography, video, music and more. The entry must explain the participant’s heart for ministry to orphans in Africa. Those with the most votes will be invited as volunteers to join Esparza and Mulberger on their trip to Africa this summer.

“God’s Word transforms lives,” Reel Hope Coordinator Jane McGrath says. “Through Reel Hope we can invite others to join in this important work and share that enthusiasm with their friends and networks.”
